Desc. of Regular Meetings/Activities Monthly Meetings - 1st Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm. A contractor is invited in to present to the group. The past months activities are quickly reviewed and the upcoming months activities are described.

About: Grill Out - Grillouts are held at Brookside Park here in Ames. Purpose of the event is to provide members with a place to socialize with other members of the organization and to earn a point towards active membership

About: Friday After Class - Order pizza and pop at Pizza Pit for members to have a chance to socialize outside the classroom. FAC's are held when it isn't nice enough outside to hold grillouts.

About: Job Site Tours - Job Site tours are lined up through contractors. A group of members will take a tour of a construction site and learn about certain aspects of the construction. Whether it is about problems encountered or construction sequencing. Site tours are the members place to learn about construction outside of the classroom.

About: Community Service - Community service activities consist of construction related activities for the most part. Allow members to try their hand at building and broaden their knowledge base of construction activities or leadership skills. Projects consist of driveways, sidewalks, framing, roofing, siding, windows & doors, demo & remodel, Adopt-A-Highway Clean-up, spring and fall blood drives, etc. The projects are also an excellent way for members to meet one another and build lasting relationships through the rest of their college and business careers.

About: CCEE Club Fest - The CCEE Department put on a club fest at the begining of August to showcase the CCEE department clubs at the begining of the year. Clubs set up booths in Town Engineering Building and allowed students to wander through on their way to get some burgers and the north end of Town.

About: Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort - Over Spring Break the AGC takes a group of members to Waveland, MS to help rebuild houses. This event started in March 2006 and has continued each year since. The group will spend the entire week in MS living in a relief camp which provides food, shelter, and restrooms. Members will work on a variety of projects including: pouring concrete, framing, roofing, drywall, setting doors & windows, siding, building decks & wheelchair ramps, cutting down trees, etc. The event is completely organized by the members attending the trip. All of the money and tools needed are raised/donated by the participating members. In March 2008 the group put in 2750 man hours of construction work in six days.

About: ASC Student Competitions - The Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Student Competition is a competition in which teams of six students participate in real-life bidding scenarios. The teams are judged on estimating, bidding, planning, scheduling, presentation skills, creativity, and construction techniques. There are four different divisions in which teams can compete: 1) Commercial, 2) Design-Build, 3) Heavy/Highway, 4) Residential. Regional competitions are held each fall to determine which teams will attend nationals in the spring.

About: Highschool Outreach - Members will randomly talk with highschool students about the Construction Engineering program and about the AGC Student Organization. Most events are done on a members own time, but the AGC will provide them with materials to use in their presentation and handouts to give to the attending students

About: Legislative Event - The group set up a booth at the Capital Building in Des Moines. AGC was invited by the University to attend this event to help show case what the university/engineering department is up to. This was a special event the university put on for its 150th Birthday.

About: AGC of Iowa Convention - The AGC of Iowa puts on an event annualy for 3 days, one of which student chapter members attend. During that day they hold a breakfast for past presidents of the state chapter and members of the student chapters from different universities to attend. After which the is a leadership discussion along with a meeting with the state legislature. Also during the day are several seminars ranging on a variety of construction related topics. Such as safety and upcoming trends in the industry.

About: SWE Fall Welcome Event - SWE held an event to showcase engineering clubs to incoming freshman where each organization set up a booth for students to learn about the clubs

About: Relay for Life - Members walked the track in shifts through out the evening to showing that cancer never sleeps. There were also games at the event that members participated in. The goal was to give members the opportunity to socialize with each other while supporting the American Cancer Society

About: Special Topic Presentations - Contractors are invited in outside of the chapters monthly meeting to speak to a group of student members regarding a project or part of their business that would interest members. The contractor normally provides some type of dinner and has roughly an hour allocated to discuss their company and project. The goal of these presentations is to expose members to different aspects of the construction industry and to expose the contractors to the students. These are very successful events and quickly raise members awareness of what the construction industry has to offer.

About: E-Week Senior Visitation Day - The goal was to expose prospective freshman to the Construction Engineering Department and to the AGC Student Chapter. ESC organized the event for highschool seniors where clubs set up booths during the lunch hour and highschool students could walk around a learn about the clubs.

About: Transportation Career Fair - The university arranged for a transporation career fair in the Sheaman building where highschool students would visit booths. The event was hosted by the AGC of Iowa, Iowa DOT, ISU Student Groups, and Contractors for a day of learning. Highschool student would attend seminars, speak with industry professionals, and partisipate in interactive displays. The AGC student group had a booth set up for students to visit.

About: AGC Tailgate - The chapter organizes a tailgate at one of the home football games where members can swing by and grab a burger and chips. In Fall 2007 the group did a morning tailgate and cooked breakfast on a rented tailer grill. Normally contractors are invited to attend, but due to a lack of attendance on the part of students they have not done so recently. Changes are being made to increase the attendance at the tailgates.

About: SWE Halloween Village - Help elementary aged school kids build a grahm cracker house and try to integrate how the frosting holds the house together.

About: Concrete Cube - The goal is to expose Highschool students to concrete designing, mixing, forming, pouring, and testing. The event is slit into two weekends: 1 for designing, mixing, and pouring. The 2nd is for testing the concrete.

About: Spring Banquet - Goal is to recognize the chapter and their acheivements throughout the year. Contractors sponsor tables at the event and send employees to attend. Each table has roughly 4 contractor employees and 6 students. Student organization activities are discussed along with scholarship recipients, faculty awards, and prizes are distributed.

Desc. of Advertising Efforts All advertising efforts can be found in the activities section. The advertising comes in various forms. There is advertising to students not yet to college through Engineering Day at the Mall and Highschool Outreach activities. There is advertising the current college students through Club Fest, VEISHA, and club Fest. There is also advertising to future employees through monthly meeting, special topics presentations, news letters, and the Spring Banquet & Golf Tournament.
