Pi Tau Sigma is the national mechanical engineering honor society and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. There are 141 chapters, including universities in almost every state of the United States. Its objectives are (1) to foster high ideals in the engineering profession, (2) to stimulate and support departmental activities, (3) to promote professional welfare, and (4) to develop leadership and citizenship. Membership Qualifications
The top one-fourth of the junior class and top one-third of the senior class qualify. In addition, graduate students from institutions without a PTS chapter or with recommendations from two mechanical engineering faculty may also join. Honorary memberships are offered to those with notable achievements in mechanical engineering as well as to assistant or associate professors. There is a one-time lifetime fee of $65 for membership in the organization.
